Pending home sales rise 0.2%

The number of Americans signing contracts to buy previously owned homes unexpectedly rose in September after reaching a record low.
The National Association of Realtors’ index of signed purchase agreements increased 0.2 percent to 85.7, the first gain in three months, the group said Tuesday. September’s increase follows the biggest back-to-back declines since record keeping began in 2001.
